Just like someone commented here earlier today, the Phoenix Coyotes claimed Ducks goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov off waivers. After the deal they waisted no time as they let him start against the Los Angeles Kings today. He has been solid and shut out the Kings with 09.20 minutes to go in the 3rd period.
I like the fact that Phoenix picked up Bryzgalov because they see him as a number one for the future, and not just a trade object for later in the season (no pun intended, Mike). Ilya Bryzgalov could be the goalie to take the Coyotes to that next level. He is a very talented netminder who is just reaching his prime. He also proved, while with the Ducks, that he is more than capable come playoff time.

I'm wondering what's going through Tellqvist's mind these days. The guy couldn't catch any breaks in Toronto and just as he and his team starts to find ways to win in Phoenix a new potential number one netminder checks in. So it's back to the drawing board for Tellqvist.
I'm really starting to wonder how long Telly will last in the NHL. I actually do think he can be a solid top-level goalie but he is just way too streaky. Keep in mind, another solid goalie in the 'Yotes system is Alex Auld and the only thing keeping him out of the dressing room at the moment is a little thing called a two-way contract. In other words, dollars and cents. This will give Tellqvist a little breathing room but for how long? Time to stand on your head Telly.
I was convinced Tellqvist was a potential number one, but to be honest, I'm not so sure anymore. On the NHL level he is not as consistent as he was back in Sweden, and I doubt he'll ever be. I still think Bryzgalov could be the best thing that could happen to the Coyotes. Now they can get rid of Aebischer and Tellqvist or Auld, because I don't think Auld is the solid guy you can really rely on when the pressure is on. His season so far is sub par.
By the way. I know the Boston Bruins have made some pretty dumb trades in the past. But how could they let Brad Boyes go?
Ha ha, tell me about it. Unless Wideman turns into a Phaneuf in a hurry, the Boyes trade will come back in bite Chiarelli in the ass sooner then later. But at least it's not as bad as the Raycroft for Rask trade. I know the latter has yet to play a regular season game but he is widely regarded as the game's (outside the NHL) top goaltending prospect. Just the thought alone blows Raycroft out of the water.
Come to think of it, Boston and Toronto have a lot in common. Both cities have equally pathetic and poorly run hockey franchises. What separates the two is that they like to compete in finding alternative ways to blow it.
